Yeah, PM's and emails can be used instead. The chat box is for more so group chats. That's one of the reasons why everyone can see if you're online or something.

It's sort of sad, because a chatbox is actually really good, because not all people have AIM, or Gmail or whatever. But because it's poorly advertised, noone sees it, and a lot people come here for forums, not chat.

I added a link in the top of the forums. that should make it easier to get to.
